Choosing the New Way matters. Once you’re saved, there’s no more important choice.

And we’ll not be able to sustain that choice unless our passion for God becomes stronger than our passion for everything else, including a restored relationship with a rejecting child.

Let me state in a different way those two lessons I’m learning about New Way living.

First, the Spirit is always nudging me to follow His lead, and it’s always toward knowing Christ better. That’s His word to me when life goes sour and when it goes well. That’s always what He says: Come as you are to find God.

Second, I will not follow Him unless I somehow cooperate with His work in deepening my desire for Christ. As long as I want blessings more, I will end up on the Old Way.

My conclusion is also twofold:

First, if I don’t learn to hear what the Spirit is saying, I’ll walk the Old Way, and the results will be disastrous. B follows A. That’s where linearity still holds.

Second, if I do learn to hear more clearly the Spirit’s voice, both in leading me in the New Way and in strengthening my first-place passion for Christ, I’ll experience deep joy and rich meaning in the middle of any circumstance. My soul will be in line with the Immanuel Agenda. God will be our God, and we will be His people. Guaranteed!
